Education is Good Economics

Just a few days ago, South Carolina received its latest unemployment rate report card - 12.1% for October, or the 5th worst rate in the nation. South Carolina lost jobs again in October, while our neighbor North Carolina added over 12,000 jobs.  This recession will not last forever, but as the economy recovers, quality education and quality employment will go hand in hand.  Education is the future of our economy.

Manufacturers today rely upon fewer employees with particular talents on the shop floor.  Small businesses are made up of small staffs, with expertise in technology, sales, and writing.  New green industries will require the best-trained workforce. Our students have to leave school with marketable abilities, but they must also have the knowledge and skills to adapt to volatile markets, changing technology, and diverse careers that may include jobs that do not even exist today.
